New Zealand as a country has an enviable reputation for punching well above its weight in the world of specialist products and the PLINIUS range of amplifiers and CD players are great examples of why New Zealand goods are so well sought after the world over.

Now celebrating our 30th anniversary we can confidently claim that PLINIUS has often set the bench mark in terms of subjective analysis of amplifier performance and it continues to do so. PLINIUS engineers are determined that their products should capture and reproduce via their efforts in research and development the unique features of recordings and thus allow us all to enjoy music in our own individual way.

Drawing on the past while also looking to the future PLINIUS has produced the Anniversary CD player and the Anniversary Integrated Amplifier. These limited edition models are based on the most popular amplifier in the range and a much altered CD player that still sends the distinct message from its display design that listening to music is simply, all about listening.

With it's constant focus on the idea that our product designs must be as beautifully produced as the music they play, the strikingly styled and constructed casework and the clever use of organic dyes in the anodising, result in subtle colour variations as the light reflects of the case from different angles. The striking images are softened by subtle shifts in light and colour, so often like the effect music has on us.

CD-101

We put much effort into understanding the interface requirements, and decided that as music is the goal, the interface should distract as little as possible.

In true Plinius fashion, we have approached the development of our CD player from a different angle, in our reasearch we listened long and hard to SACD and other formats but elected to stick with Redbook because of the results achieved and to support the extensive CD collections our customers already have.

Physically the Plinius CD-101 matches our range of intergrated, pre and power ampplifiers.  The operational styling of the CD-101 has only one control button on the front panel with all other functions driven from the distinctive remote control.  The remote control also has some basic functions allowing volume and mute adjustment on Plinius pre and integrated amplifiers.

The display consists of a series of micro LEDs showing the progress of the tracks through the disk.  This is simple, elegant and directs the listener's focus to the music and away from the technology.

The mechanical design has also seen much effort go into ensuring the transport is isolated and the chassis is well damped.  The build quality is beyond reproach.  As with other Plinius products it is the music that matters most.  We believe the CD-101 is a worthy addition to our range.
